Solea Sleep Snoring Care in Covington

Solea Sleep in Covington, KY is a laser snoring treatment that gently firms the soft palate, the flexible tissue at the back of the roof of your mouth that vibrates while you breathe at night. Patients from Covington, Newport, Park Hills, Taylor Mill and across Kenton County come to us for a snoring option that needs no mask, no mouthpiece and no surgery.

Dr. Barry Applegate, DMD has worked inside the mouth, jaw and airway as a cosmetic and general dentist since 1993, and he founded Applegate MedSpa in 2024. Solea Sleep comes straight from the dental side of the practice, which is why very few med spas in Northern Kentucky or greater Cincinnati are able to offer it at all.

The Challenge

How Solea Sleep Helps When Snoring Wears You Down

Understanding Palatal Vibration

You are usually the last person to hear it. Your partner has started drifting to the guest room, your family jokes about the noise at breakfast, and a weekend away with friends turns into a running commentary. You wake with a dry mouth and a scratchy throat, and the seven hours you spent in bed never quite feel like seven hours of rest. Most people have already worked through the strips, the sprays, the wedge pillows and the phone apps, and the room is still not any quieter.
Solea Sleep takes a different route. Rather than managing the noise with something you have to wear every single night, the laser treats the tissue that produces the noise. The soft palate is warmed gently, and as it heals it firms up, so it flutters less when air moves across it. Treatment takes minutes, you return to your day immediately, and most patients notice the change build over the following weeks. If you also clench, read how snoring and jaw clenching are connected.

Understanding Your Treatment

What Is Solea Sleep?

The Science of Palatal Tightening

Solea Sleep is a laser snoring treatment delivered with the Solea dental laser, the FDA cleared system we already use on the dental side of the practice. The beam passes gently across the soft palate at the back of the roof of your mouth. Nothing is cut and nothing is injected.

Snoring happens when that tissue relaxes and flutters as air moves past it. The laser warms the palate just enough to prompt the body's own repair response, and as it heals it tightens, so it vibrates less. Your visit takes minutes, and most patients hear the difference build over several weeks. Learn more about what causes snoring.

Is This Right for You

Who Is a Good Candidate for Solea Sleep?

Finding Your Quieter Night

Solea Sleep suits adults whose snoring comes from the soft palate and who want something that does not involve a mask, a mouthpiece or an operation.

Ideal Candidates for Solea Sleep

  • Adults with simple snoring that is not caused by diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea
  • Patients whose partner describes loud, rattling snoring rather than gasping or pauses in breathing
  • People who have already tried strips, sprays or sleep position changes without much success
  • Patients who want a needle-free, appliance-free option and can commit to a short series of visits
  • Adults in good general health with realistic expectations about reduction rather than elimination

Who Should Wait or Avoid Solea Sleep

  • Anyone with diagnosed or suspected obstructive sleep apnea who has not completed a medical sleep evaluation
  • Patients with an active infection, ulcer or lesion in the mouth or throat
  • Patients who are pregnant, who should postpone elective treatment
  • People whose snoring is driven mainly by nasal obstruction, which an ENT should assess first

One important limit. Solea Sleep treats snoring. It is not a treatment for diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea, and it does not replace CPAP or any therapy your physician has prescribed. Snoring can be a symptom of a more serious breathing disorder, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine sets out how ordinary snoring differs from that. If you gasp, choke or stop breathing in your sleep, or you are exhausted through the day, please get a proper medical sleep evaluation before you consider any snoring treatment. We will tell you plainly when that is the right first step. Patients who also grind or clench can ask about Emface for jaw tension and TMJ during the same appointment.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Solea Sleep

How much does Solea Sleep cost in Covington, KY?
Solea Sleep is quoted at your consultation rather than listed as a flat price. The cost depends on how many visits your soft palate needs and whether you are combining it with other treatments. We give you a firm number in person, with no obligation to book that day, and Cherry Financing is available if you would prefer monthly payments.
How long do Solea Sleep results last?
Most patients enjoy around twelve months of quieter nights after completing their series, though this varies. The palate is living tissue, so it can soften again with age, weight change or alcohol use. A short refresher visit usually restores the effect. We track your results over time and tell you when a top-up makes sense.
Does Solea Sleep hurt?
No. Most patients describe warmth at the back of the mouth and nothing more. There are no needles, no numbing injection and no cutting, so there is nothing to recover from afterward. You sit upright with your mouth open for a few short laser passes, then rinse, drink some water and get on with your day.
When will I notice quieter snoring?
Many patients or their partners notice a change two to four weeks after the first visit. The laser works by prompting the palate to firm as it heals, so the effect builds gradually rather than arriving overnight. The fullest result usually shows around eight weeks after the series finishes. Results vary between individuals.
How many Solea Sleep treatments do I need?
Most patients complete a short series of visits spaced a few weeks apart, then return for occasional maintenance. The exact number depends on how much palatal laxity Dr. Applegate finds at your assessment. Because each visit takes only about ten minutes with no downtime, the series fits easily around work and family.
How is Solea Sleep different from an oral appliance?
Solea Sleep and an oral appliance work on two different parts of the airway. Solea Sleep is a laser that firms the soft palate, so it treats snoring that comes from palatal vibration, and there is nothing to wear at night. A Panthera snore guard is a custom device that holds your lower jaw forward, so it treats snoring that comes from the jaw and tongue falling back, and it works for as long as you wear it. Dr. Applegate examines your airway and tells you which one fits. Some patients do both.
Can men get Solea Sleep?
Yes, and men make up a large share of our snoring patients. Snoring becomes more common in men from their forties onward as palatal tissue relaxes. The treatment is identical regardless of gender: a few minutes in the chair, no needles and no appliance. Many men book after a partner finally raises it.
Does Solea Sleep treat sleep apnea?
No. Solea Sleep addresses snoring only. It is not a treatment for diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea and it does not replace CPAP or any therapy your physician prescribed. If you gasp, choke or stop breathing during sleep, or feel exhausted all day, ask your doctor for a proper medical sleep evaluation before pursuing any snoring treatment.
What if I already use CPAP?
Keep using it. CPAP is prescribed by your physician for a diagnosed condition, and nothing we do here changes that plan. Bring your sleep study and speak with your doctor first. We will happily review your history with you and will tell you plainly if Solea Sleep is not appropriate in your situation.
Why does a med spa offer a snoring laser?
Because this one grew out of a dental practice. Dr. Barry Applegate, DMD has worked in the mouth, jaw and airway since 1993, and the Solea laser already lives in the building. That dental background is also why we can look at snoring, clenching and jaw tension together rather than treating each one in isolation.
