Jeuveau is a prescription botulinum toxin type A, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in February 2019. Its approved use is the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and procerus muscle activity in adults. Glabellar lines is the clinical term for frown lines. The generic name is prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs, and it is made under licence for Evolus, a company that sells aesthetic products only, which is where the nickname Newtox comes from.
A very small amount is injected into each target muscle. The toxin blocks the chemical signal that tells that muscle to contract. The muscle stops pulling the skin into a fold, and the fold softens as the skin settles over the following weeks. Nothing is filled and nothing is added underneath the line. The glabellar dose in the prescribing information is 20 units in total, given as 4 units at each of five points, and it is not repeated more often than every three months.

What can happen, stated plainly
Common Jeuveau Side Effects
The reactions listed in the prescribing information are headache, drooping of the eyelid, upper respiratory tract infection and an increased white blood cell count. Locally, a small bruise, brief redness or tenderness at an injection point is usual and settles within a few days. Most patients go straight back to work.
Less Common Reactions
Eyelid or brow drooping happens when product moves beyond the muscle it was placed in. It is uncommon and it is temporary. Staying upright and leaving the area alone for the first four hours reduces the chance of it.
Boxed Warning and FDA Status
Jeuveau carries the boxed warning that applies to every botulinum toxin product. The effects of the toxin can spread from the injection area hours to weeks after treatment and cause symptoms such as muscle weakness and difficulty swallowing or breathing. These problems can be severe and deaths have been reported. The reported cases have involved far larger doses used for other medical conditions, and Jeuveau is not approved for any condition other than glabellar lines.
